Top 5 Wednesday // Summer Reads
Summer is a time for reading. Time is taken off, everything is peaceful and warm and sunny and oh, look, you’re outside for the first time this year. It’s time to wipe off the cobwebs and get your nose into a good book. Get the sand between your toes or lie back on the grass, these are the books that to me, are the most summery!
The Sky Is Everywhere & I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson
I’m starting to sound a little like a broken record when it comes to the beautiful writing that is Jandy Nelson’s words. But how can I not give at least a bit of love every month? I garuntee you will like the other book if you enjoyed one. I started with I’ll Give You The Sun, adored it, and for some strange reason, didn’t pick up The Sky Is Everywhere until much later. Why did I not think the writing wouldn’t be as en pointe as before?
The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
The Raven Cycle has quickly become one of the most read and aesthetic series on the internet. It’s everywhere; from fanart to playlists to AUs. The first book in the series is set entirely in the boys’ summer holidays/vacation. And so, Henrietta is alive for summer as the gang search for their lost Raven King. If you haven’t started this already, you seriously should!
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
There is nothing like a post-apocalyptic teen novel for your poolside read! I read this a long time ago and was blown away by the fantastic writing and the vivid characters. The reason behind the end-of-the-world…ness, is a very secretive, thrilling element to the story, and a for a long time you’re left to figure out what’s going on. It’s chilling and scarily close to home. If you’ve seen the movie, don’t base it on that. Please. Don’t.
Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
This was a complete cover buy; scowering the internet for the American version to be shipped to the U.K. I mean, look at it. I read Truthwitch with absolutely no clue about the plot, and in parts, I still don’t know. But I’m excited for Windwitch, and the series is rich with world building and beautiful female friendships. I would recommend this if summer and high fantasy are your perfect mix!
