What If It’s A Playlist? What If It’s Us International Blog Tour!

When I was offered a stop on the What If It’s Us International Blog Tour, I could not believe my luck.

For years, I have been ranting and raving about Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli. And now, I still can’t believe they came together and released What If It’s Us, about two boys who meet each other on the off-chance in NYC.

Shortly after I received confirmation that I’d be on this tour, a proof copy of What If It’s Us came through the door from the UK publisher, Simon and Schuster. I decided, instead of writing two reviews, to do something a little different.

Music is such a large part of What If It’s Us. Both characters have their favourite songs and Broadway shows, with most songs even listed on the page. I love listening to playlists when reading. They drown out the noise of the rest of the world and really help me focus on the atmosphere in the book. What If It’s Us is set completely in New York City, with two tour guides; a native New Yorker and a ‘tourist’.

In this playlist, I’ve added songs that appear in the book and ones that I listened to while reading. I was going for that sweet LGBTQ+ contemporary that might remind you of Becky Albertalli’s previous novels. Not so much Adam Silvera’s, which are sad LGBTQ+ contemporaries. But! What If It’s Us has both writing styles and feel of an Albertalli and Silvera novel to make the ultimate LGBTQ+ contemporary:

The Silvertalli Novel.

The playlist is embedded down below on Spotify. Make sure to add it to your saved playlists and get it on shuffle for your big What If It’s Us reading sesh! What If It’s Us is out now internationally and published by Harper Collins International!

Did you know I am also sharing this tour stop with H. Bentham over at Bentch Creates? Go check out his review! And tomorrow, don’t forget to nip round to Read by Nicka and give Nicka’s stop a read!

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this, but still haven’t finished it because life sucks 😫😂 but what I had managed to read was so so good. I love the idea of combining books and playlists since music and reading are like my two fave things, haha. Love the playlist that you made, Hollie!

Haha! That happens a lot to me too. Yes! I really loved the incorporation of music in the characters’ lives. It gives them a bit more dimension and it should always be included in contemporary! Thank you!
